What's Happening in New EnglandThere's more to New England than just the great outdoors - but when you think about it, the "great indoors" doesn't really have the same ring to it! Not suggesting that you hang up your hiking boots to settle down in front of the television, far from it in fact, the great indoors incorporates all that's wonderful in the world of theatre and cultural happenings such as exhibitions and events in local museums all throughout the New England area. If you're a local or just passing through for a visit, then now is the time to check out what's showing at a local New England theatre. Live performances are still popular for a wide variety of reasons that range from an innovative study method for high school and college students needing to learn more about a text or a way for aspiring actors to seek inspiration, to a good ol' fashioned date idea or an enjoyable get-together with friends and acquaintances.
The Weston Playhouse Theatre for instance, dubbed "The most beautiful theatre in New England" by the Boston Globe , is a non-profit regional theatre dedicated to excellence in a unique Vermont setting. It aims to serve a community of artists and audiences through a broad spectrum of dramatic works and educational programs, which has been recently recognized by the awarding of the Berkshire Bank "Join the Excitement" grant to the theatre company. The special grant will be used to support the WPT Company's entire upcoming season, which includes Obie and Emmy Award-winning actor Christopher Lloyd in the American classic Death of A Salesman and the company's first world premiere. A whole host of recent hits from Broadway and Off-Broadway are also set for their Vermont premieres in the 7-show season, ensuring that the Vermont crowd can now snare up top comedy musical tickets all the closer to home. These performances include the Hitchcock-inspired comedy thriller, The 39 Steps, and the riotous cult classic musical Avenue Q. Forget about all the melodrama of the Faust legend , Damn Yankees is a musical comedy that will please baseball fans and theatre aficionados alike, in which an "Everyday Joe", baseball fan Joe Boyd sells his soul to the Devil in order to see his favorite team emerge triumphant. Another crowd-pleaser is set to be the Off-Broadway smash The Marvelous Wonderettes, which offers audiences a skip down memory lane with the type of songs that would have been prime concert ticket material in the 50s and 60s such as "Lollipop", "Lipstick on Your Collar" and "It's My Party". Feel good has never felt so good! Discover the impact that the performing arts can have on a community with local theatre in the New England region. Subscriptions or tickets to individual shows are now available to order online or via the box offices of a whole range of quality local theaters throughout Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut. |
